Rush Returns to Chile: The Tour No One Thought Possible Without Neil Peart
After their drummer died in 2020, Geddy Lee said Rush was over. Five years later, he and Alex Lifeson hit the road again, and in January they play two nights in Santiago.
Rush formed in Toronto in 1968, and for four decades it was a trio unlike any other: Geddy Lee on bass, keyboards and vocals; Alex Lifeson on guitar; and, from 1974 on, Neil Peart on drums.
Peart wasn’t just the drummer. He also wrote almost all the lyrics, packed with science fiction, fantasy and philosophy. To drummers around the world he’s a legend: his playing shaped generations.
The band stopped touring in 2015. On January 7, 2020, Neil Peart died at 67, after a three-and-a-half-year battle with brain cancer that he had kept private.
In 2021, Geddy Lee was blunt: Rush was done. He couldn’t see a way to go on without his friend. But in October 2025, he and Lifeson surprised everyone with an announcement: they were returning to the stage as Rush, with German drummer Anika Nilles and keyboardist Loren Gold.
The tour is called Fifty Something. It kicked off in June 2026 in the US and wraps up in April 2027 in Finland. Along the way, it swings through South America.
The last time Rush played Chile was October 17, 2010, at the Estadio Nacional, with the entire Moving Pictures album in the setlist. Seventeen years later they’re coming back, and shortly after the announcement the band added a second date.
The two nights are January 17 and 19, 2027, at the Estadio Bicentenario de La Florida. For longtime fans, it’s going to be an emotional night: Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson together again, fronting one of progressive rock’s most beloved bands.
