Iron Maiden: 50 Years of History and the Time They Weren’t Allowed to Play Chile

In 1992 they were accused of satanic propaganda, and their show in Santiago never happened. Now they're heading back to the Estadio Nacional with a tour that celebrates half a century.

Iron Maiden was born in 1975 in East London, founded by bassist Steve Harris. Five decades later, the band is still filling stadiums around the world, and to celebrate, it put together a tour with a fitting name: Run For Your Lives.

The promise is a setlist full of classics. Singer Bruce Dickinson revealed that the show would be built only from songs off their first nine albums, the ones released between 1980 and 1992.

This tour brings another change: it’s the first in more than forty years without Nicko McBrain on drums. McBrain stopped touring at the end of 2024, and Simon Dawson has taken his place.

1992was the year religious organizations kept Iron Maiden from playing in Chile, accusing the band of being messengers of satanic propaganda.

Iron Maiden’s history with Chile has a strange chapter. In 1992, on the Fear of the Dark tour, the band made its first full swing through Latin America. But the Chile concert never happened: religious groups managed to stop it with those accusations.

A lot has changed since then. Iron Maiden has come back many times, and Chilean crowds have become some of the most passionate on any of its tours. This time the dates are October 31 and November 1 at the Estadio Nacional, with two Chilean bands opening: Nuclear and Mammoth.

There’s one more reason not to miss it. Once this tour wraps up, the band has announced it will take all of 2027 off.
